We all know that the holidays and the days leading up to the New Year can be a wonderful, merry and joyful time of the year, but if you own a company (or work for a company for that matter) they can also be a stressful time of the year. There are many deadlines that need to be hit before the New Year, and many employees take time off, which means the work needs to be done even sooner. Without the right preparation, the holidays can be a nightmare for your company. So here are a few tips for how to get prepared for the New Year to make sure you start the new year on the right foot.
5 Tips for helping you and your company be prepared for the New Year:
1. Get Through the Major Holidays
It’s important to stay focused through the holiday season so you can to finish up the last of your work for the year. In doing so, you will feel better prepared for the upcoming year. Once you’ve made it through the days leading up to the holidays by focusing on your work, you can relax, not worry as much about work, focus on Christmas and New Year’s Eve/Day and spend time with loved ones.
2. Plan Ahead
Planning ahead is an important step to a successful future. I’ve heard it said many times, “No plan is a plan to fail!” By properly planning you can stay focused on your end goals for the year and grow as a company. Planning ahead will also help you feel more equipped to finish the tasks at hand in a timely manner.
3. Take Time for Honest Reflection
Give your company time for honest reflection. Take a long, hard look at the positive aspects of your company from the last year. Then take a long, hard look at the negative aspects from the last year. It can be easy to just look at the positives or just look at the negatives, but both are crucial. The positive aspects will help you know where your strength lies and where you can continue to grow. The negative aspects are where you have room to improve and where you can do better for the next year. This point applies for you as the head of your company and also everyone who works in your company. Allow everyone a time to reflect on the previous year of business. Make sure you set aside time for this so that it can be done well by managing your time properly.
4. Set Realistic Higher Goals
Setting higher goals for the New Year is a great way to improve your company. It is vital to strive for growth at all times and, by setting new goals you will feel invigorated and challenged to succeed in new and exciting ways. Higher goals will also push you and your employees to take steps forward, never backwards.
5. Work as a Team
With new goals and expectations, be sure that you keep a positive attitude and work as a team. We all know “there is no ‘I’ in ‘team,’” so work as a team! Encourage your employees to ask questions and give them time to reflect on the previous year to set goals for themselves. By working as a great team, the holiday season can breeze by and take you into a successful New Year.
These are tips that I certainly try to implement at my company, Em-Media, and I find them incredibly helpful, I hope you do too!
Now that you are well-equipped with ideas on how to become prepared for the New Year and tackle the holiday season, go out there and do it!
